a very bright and promising future.

ALPHA KAPPA MU
HONOR SOCIETY

Alpha Phi Chapter

Since its founding in 1937 at Tennessee A & I
State University by Dr. G. W. Gore, Alpha
Kappa Mu has become the largest and best
recognized of the national honor societies for
the Negro. Alpha Phi Chapter was founded
May 18, 1954, by Mrs. B. H. Puryear. The
chapter has helped foster the concepts of the
society through its Tutorial Program and Hon-
ors Day Program.

Lambda Iota Tau was established in 1953
at Michigan State University. There are
55 chapters in this country, Canada, and
Japan, all of them devoted to "the recogni-
tion and promotion of excellence in the
study of literature." The Letters Lambda
lota Tau stand for the motto of the society,
Logos Idean Telei, "The Word Gives Form
to the Idea." The insignia consists of two
crossed quills over a shield, on which is
a gold bend sinister with the Greek letters,
L.I.T.; in the upper portion of the shield
a gold torch of learning; in the lower por-
tion a gold chain of fraternal unity; under
the shield the motto. The official colors
are purple and gold. Alpha Omega Chapter
was installed on October 29, 1964, in St.
Augustine with Dr. Barnhart as the Mod-
erator. Sister Robert Louise, O.P., of Barry
College and the Moderator of Psi Chapter,
delivered the installation address.
